History

In Spring 2002, two of our founding members participated in a workshop of Freddy Washington - a well-known gospel musician also in Switzerland - in New Jersey/USA.
At this occasion, they met Michael Crews, a gospel singer, musician and composer, and
his family. On our request, Michael was spontaneously ready to work with our group in Switzerland – named the Peace Singers at that time - together with his wife Carmenda, a well-known gospel singer in USA.

Less than one year later, after a first concert in Binningen/BL, our first small common tour took place in the southern part of Germany - for all of us a wonderful and intense time, full of cordiality, warmth, spontaneity and joy.
In the following years, this same atmosphere could be felt in our further concerts with our American friends - meanwhile lovingly called „our Family“ by us - in different places around Basle, but also in Lucerne.

In the cours of time, and corresponding to requests from our audience, the idea came up not only to perform gospel music but also to give people the opportunity to sing Gospel themselves and to have them participate in the joy and intensity in singing the Gospel.
In this context, we asked Floyd T. Myrie, another gospel musician from New Jersey, if he would be ready to hold workshops together with Michael here in Switzerland. Floyd spontaneously agreed, and so, in 2006, our first workshops took place around Basle.

As more and more people showed interest in singing the Gospel, we had to make adjustments on the organisational level, so in Spring 2008 we founded our association under our new name the Voices of Unity
